Adding an Injen Cold Air Intake
With spring quickly approaching I thought it was time to try out a Cold Air Intake kit (CAI) on Ivy. A lot of these CAI seemed to keep the air fillter in the engine bay and then use heat shields or other types of enclosure to keep the engine bay heat away from the intake. The thing with these is they still bascially are drawing air from the engine bay or from the front of the car, behind the head light. So when I seen the Injen CAI, I was a bit intriqued. The Injen places the air intake/filter down low and basically out of the engine bay, where it can draw air from the lower grill and from under the car. The Injen CAI was also reasonably priced so I decided to give it a shot!
So with box in tow, I headed down to MRT, where I pestered Scott into helping with the install!
A quick run down of the install. First the stock washer bottle needs to be removed. This requires removing the front wheel and then the plastic wheel well liner. Next the stock intake air box is removed. The new Injen intake tube is then assembled. and installed. The new filter is attached to the intake tube. The Injen comes with a new washer bottle. After installing a couple of brackets on the washer bottle , pump is moved over from the stock washer bottle. Unfortunately the wiring harness doesn't quite reach the new location of the pump. However by removing some of the tape around the wires you can free up enough so the harness will reach. Finally put the wheel well liner back and and put your front wheel back on... Fairly straight forward... however we did run into a few small glitches.
The first issue was the elbow between the throttle body and the intake tube. It was hard to get the elbow on and then once on it was basically impossible to rotate the elbow to get everything into positon. We put a little lube on the intake tube, allwoing the elbow to go on easier and making it able to rotate.
The other issue was the PCV connection. Seemed the hoses just didn't fit correctly. Injen supplies two hoses. One was a bit to small and one was a bit two big. The other issue revolved around the PCV connection. Injen supplies an "oil diffuers" and a couple pieces of hose to connect it all together.. No here the odd part. Instead of having a hose that goes on the outside of the PCV connection of the intake tube, Injen has you put the hose on the inside of the connection... kind of using the hose as a grommet/bushing... Issue became that the piece of hose that fit snugly inside the connect was to thick and prevented us from pushing the oil diffuser in. The other piece of hose fit with the oil diffuser but it was a just a tad bit loose! So we ended up putting a bit of sealant around... problem solved!
