Lowering the 2010 V6 Camaro

I really love the looks of the 2010 Camaro. Love the lines, the low roof, the agressive nose and the big hips.  But one thing that had been bothering me for a while however was it's jacked up 4x4 stance. It seemed lately that every time I looked at Ivy all I could see was those HUGE gaps in the wheel wells. Well, after a while it bugged me enough I finally decided something need to be done!  So once again I found myself on the phone with Scott Hoag from MRT.

Talking with Scott, he suggested that a set of H&R Sport Springs would solve my problem. Having put a set of H&R's in my Mustang, The Mistress, I knew that that H&R springs were top notch and was very comfortable putting a set in Ivy.  So it was decided... a new set of H&R springs were going into Ivy!

So with the baseline photos and baseline measurement done, it was time to head down to MRT to have the springs installed!

And now... The FINAL RESULTS!

 

H&R lists the drop on these springs at 1.4 inches for the front and 1.3 inches for the rear.  Looking at my measurements the front went from 30.1875 inches to 28.75 inches for a drop of  1.4375 inches. The rear started at 30.8125 inches and ended up at 29.245 inches for a drop of 1.5675 inches.  So it appears that the H&R drops the rear a bit more than advertised. Actually for me I like that the rear drops a hair more than the front... Now one other thing, I also added new Nitto tires which are just a tiny bit shorter than the stock tires that were on the car for the baseline measurements.   With the shorter Nittos the rear dropped about an additional 1/8 of an inch...  With the extra drop of the rear springs and the tires, the car actually sits more level!

So now the car looks a lot better with the big gap gone... but what about on the street?  On the street the H&R Sport Springs are nice and firm without being overly harsh.  In fact I took a 2400 mile trip to southern Georgia, hitting some incredibly rough patches of road at highway speeds. Yes, with the H&R I noticed the bumps a bit more than with the cushy stock springs but the ride was still very comfortable even after driving for hours on end!  Round trip was about 35 hours!  Bottom line.... I absolutely LOVE the new stance!  The car looks so much better lowered.  In face I have already recieved a number for compliments!  In fact I was crusing with some other Camaro owners and one owner commented on just how good Ivy looked going down the road! Then there is the improved handlng!  Much more confident feeling than with the softer stock springs!  So all of this while still maintaining an acceptably comfortable ride!  Well, needless to say, once again I'm impressed with H&R and highly recommend them if you are thinking about lowering your Camaro!
